Notice of maintenance activity – Guemes Island Ferry terminal parking lot

The Guemes Island Ferry terminal parking lot has an Oily Water Separator (OWS) as part of its stormwater system. This OWS has two filter cartridges designed to collect pollutants, including total suspended solids, hydrocarbons, nutrients, and metals, before the stormwater is discharged into Guemes Channel. This piece of infrastructure requires ongoing maintenance, including changing out the filters.

On Monday, March 1, between the hours of 11:45 to 12:45, the County will be onsite to pull the old filter cartridges and replace them with new ones.  The parking lot will remain open, but this work could cause brief delays for cars coming and going from the parking lot during this time.

The old cartridges will be returned to the manufacturer for proper disposal of the filters. The cartridges themselves will be refurbished if feasible. Any liquid or solid material collected from the OWS will be properly disposed of in accordance with Washington State law.
