Guemes Island Ferry will shut down Thursday, 11/2, 10am-1pm

The Guemes Island Ferry will be shut down on Thursday, 11/2, after the 9:45 a.m. sailing for an urgent repair on the Anacortes bridge span. An email sent on Friday, 10/27, at 2:20 p.m. warned of this possibility. We anticipate the work will be complete in time for the 1:00 p.m. sailing.

Previous Notification, Fri. 10/27, 12:20 p.m. –  This week, we performed annual preventative bridge maintenance on the Guemes Island side on Thursday, 10/26. That work is complete, and the ferry re-entered service just after 1:00 p.m.

The same day, we performed bridge inspections on the Anacortes side. There are a few issues we will need to address the week of 10/30. Therefore, there will be no second 11:15 a.m. sailing on Monday, 10/30 and Tuesday, 10/31.

At this time, we are anticipating the need to shut down the ferry for an urgent repair to the Anacortes bridge sometime next week, likely on Thursday, 11/2. We are tentatively planning to do the repair after the 9:45 a.m. sailing, and work should be complete by 1:00 p.m. However, we will not be able to confirm until Monday mid-day, at which time we will send out another notice.

We will work during the day to prioritize the safety of our crews first and foremost and reduce the added cost of working after-hours. Passenger-only service will not be provided.

Please note, the second 11:15 sailing is offered some days. When we can, we provide an extra run as a courtesy when there is an overload on the 11:15 a.m. sailing. When we do not offer a second 11:15 a.m. sailing, crews use this time to perform inspections, preventative maintenance, safety drills, fuel the vessel, etc. Every other Tuesday, we take on fuel; our fueling schedule can be found at FuelingSchedule.pdf (skagitcounty.net).

Thank you for your patience. Staying on top of these important maintenance and repair items means we can continue to provide reliable service. We hope these notifications will help you plan accordingly.
