Guemes Ferry Service – Thurs. 3/30

Guemes Ferry Service – Thurs. 3/30

On Thursday, March 30, the Guemes Island Ferry will be shut down between approximately 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to conduct the 5-year United States Coast Guard (USCG) inspection to maintain the vessel’s Certificate of Inspection (COI). The last run the ferry will do before shutting down will be at 10:45 a.m. We estimate returning to service at 1:30 p.m. Passenger-only service will not be provided during this time as the vessel will remain in the Anacortes slip for the inspection.

For a little background, every year, the ferry undergoes an annual USCG inspection to maintain the vessel’s COI, which is good for 5 years. The vessel’s current 5-year COI expires April 13, 2023. The inspection next Thursday will renew the COI for another 5 years.

For those who might be wondering, we cannot do the 5-year inspection during dry dock. The ferry just returned from a 3-week haul-out and maintenance period, during which time, the vessel completed an internal structural exam and dry dock credit, also required to maintain the COI. Those inspections are different that the one being conducted next Thursday.

We will do our best to return to service as soon as the inspection is finished. We hope this early notification will help folks prepare and plan accordingly.
