Guemes Ferry Public Forum – Nov. 7

Guemes Ferry system priorities the topic of Nov. 7 Public Forum

Eliminating the midday service gap, adding later evening runs and offering online ticket sales were three high priorities identified by the Guemes Island ferry community in a recent survey conducted by Skagit County Public Works.

How the county can address those priorities – and what it might cost to implement them – will the subject of discussion at a Guemes Island Ferry Operations Public Forum planned for 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Guemes Island Community Center, 7549 Guemes Island Road. Consulting partners BERK and KPFF will join Skagit County Public Works staff at the forum to provide additional detail on how system changes might work, and how costs could be factored into ticket prices.

Following the Public Forum, the ferry community will have a chance to review proposed changes to the schedule and ticketing procedures and submit feedback via an online survey: <>. The survey breaks down proposed system changes along with the estimated increase in ticket prices so that riders can better understand the direct impact of each option.

The survey is part of the work Skagit County is doing with Berk and KPFF to conduct an operations and service analysis that will consider current and future ferry operations and service. Upon completion of the study, BERK and KPFF will present two investment alternatives – a minimum investment package and an additional investment package. Public Works will make a recommendation based off the findings, and the Skagit County Board of Commissioners will make a final decision on how to proceed.

The survey period closes Dec. 5, which is also the final day to submit any public comments on the ferry operations and service analysis.

Comments can be sent by email to or by mail to Skagit County, 1800 Continental Place, Mount Vernon WA 98273, no later than Dec. 5.
